Clients often ask how often they should review their estate planning docs?
At a minimum clients should follow the "Five D's" in determining whether they should get their estate planning documents reviewed by an attorney:
Decade-- each new decade of your life Death--if you experience the death of a loved one Divorce--if you experience a divorce Diagnosis--if you are diagnosed w/ a serious health condition Decline--if you experience a major health decline or deterioration
Basically whenever there is a major change in your life or the lives of your loved ones. An estate plan isn't something that you set up and forget. It is something that needs to be refreshed and updated. In addition, there are often changes in the law that can affect your estate plan.
